Bayside Shakedown
"If you want to do the right thing, you have to become a leader." This is a line from Senior Detective Heihachi Waku (played by Chosuke Ikariya) in the drama and movie series "Bayside Shakedown." Some people might not know him as he hasn't appeared since the movie "Bayside Shakedown: The Movie 2," but he was a veteran detective who taught Aoshima (Yuji Oda) the ropes of being a detective. Waku would often offer quiet words of advice when Aoshima was troubled. He'd frequently say, "Don't work yourself to exhaustion," and then, as if embarrassed, add, "Just kidding," which was quite memorable. Among his many lines, this one is arguably the most iconic in "Bayside Shakedown." Considering the relationship between Aoshima and Muroi (Toshiro Yanagiba), it makes me feel anew that Waku truly believed Aoshima and Muroi could reform the police organization... I can't go into spoilers, but seeing the latest installment reminded me of this quote. It's still too early for Shunsaku Aoshima's magnum opus. I hope he continues to be a detective, staying true to what's right while keeping an eye on both the field and the higher-ups.

Not Alone
Not alone, you're turning into a dream You can even flap your wings against the headwind, so please keep smiling Let's become one, the fact that we've come this far together Is proof of my courage, in this ever-changing world This is a song by a male artist named DEEN, used as the ending theme for the anime 'Dragon Ball GT'. I called it a phrase, but I ended up writing the whole chorus lol. I was listening to random songs the other day and heard it for the first time in a while. The vocalist's gentle voice, Ikemori's, just slid into my ears, and I thought, 'I really do love the chorus of this song~', which is why I'm sharing it. The A and B melodies describe the struggles and turmoil of life, with lyrics that feel like quiet sunlight shining through. Perhaps because of that effect, the warm chorus feels even more pleasant to the ears. It's a masterpiece. Also, considering the style of Dragon Ball, the songs from GT are a bit less intense (in the Shonen Jump sense), but they have so many great tracks, I really hope you'll give them a listen.

Bakumatsu Era Loyalist Sakamoto Ryoma
"Let's reform Japan once more." This is a very famous line from a letter written by Sakamoto Ryoma, a historical figure from Japan's Bakumatsu period, to his older sister Otome in Tosa. Recently, as I've been seeing various news, I truly feel the importance of people with this kind of mindset who enable leaders to function properly. Ryoma questioned the existing feudal system (Bakuhan Taisei) with its outdated values and aspired to establish a political and economic system suited to the times, aiming to transform Japan into a new nation. After meeting Katsu Kaishu and leaving his domain, he played a part in historical events that moved Japan forward, such as modernization, the formation of the Satsuma-Choshu Alliance, and the Great Restoration of Imperial Rule. He also established Kameyama Shachu, Japan's first trading company (in present-day Nagasaki). Although he didn't achieve all his dreams, he successfully executed many things to achieve his goals. It makes me wonder if the power of words truly resides in strong-willed individuals... this episode makes me feel that sense of wonder. The image is from the PS5 game [Like a Dragon: Ishin!]

Tsundere Vice CaptainâŠ
"It was a wonderful youth full of regrets." These were the words of the vice captain, written on a message board signed only by classmates when we retired from our club activities in school. She was the type to be serious, a sore loser, and always reluctantly helping us out with a sigh. We didn't achieve our goal of a top ranking, but she was true to her tsundere nature, showing that despite the disappointment of our final year, club activities were more fun than anything else. ...I wonder if she's still a tsundere now? Haha The image is an AI-generated depiction of the vice captain.

If You Call That Love
If there's something you want to protect, then there's a future there I'll come to pick you up, wherever you are If you get battered and worn out by the wind and rain Laugh at my uncool appearance This is the theme song for the drama 'My Family' starring Kazunari Ninomiya, sung by Uru. At first, I only heard the first verse in the drama, and then when I heard the full song, I found myself tearing up, remembering it. It's a song where the lyrics, wrapped in gentle words, beautifully capture the preciousness you realize only when you're about to lose something, and the dignity of the ordinary. Every part of it is wonderful, but the chorus of the first verse particularly stuck with me. It's recently been used at weddings, and I think it resonates with anyone who has friends, children, or loved ones. The world is full of hardships and difficulties, and you can't live on cool things alone. But to have a place to return to, to have someone there, to be accepted for who you are... This delicate wish for such small happiness is summarized in these few lines. It's a song that heals the heart with Uru's gentle, warm, and slightly husky voice.

Fullmetal Alchemist
There are no lessons that do not hurt. Without sacrifice, you cannot gain anything. These are the words spoken at the beginning and end of the story of Edward Elric from the manga "Fullmetal Alchemist." I've had several moments in my life where this resonated, which is why I was drawn into this introduction. The manga's worldview, which states that the fundamental rule of "Equivalent Exchange" exists, that you can only create one from one, and that it's common sense to pay an equivalent price if you desire something new. It's very characteristic that this is depicted more like a narrator than a line of dialogue. Edward, from the lesson of breaking a taboo, finds his own answer at the end of his journey, which is profound. I won't mention this part specifically because I'd prefer you see it after finishing the manga, but the way the title was tied in was brilliant. It's a manga and a motto I still love dearly. Jack Dawson
Life is a gift. I don't want to waste it. I don't know how it will turn out, so I should just accept life as it is. These are the words of Jack Dawson, the protagonist from the movie 'Titanic'. I thought it was very fitting for Jack, a poor young painter living day to day, traveling the world and drawing freely, and I really liked this line, including his personality. He says he doesn't want to waste it, yet he should accept it. At first glance, it might sound like he's saying not to think about anything, but for Jack, life is like poker. You don't know your hand until you get it. Rather than spending your life's turn doing nothing, it seemed like he was conveying that it's more meaningful to decide which cards to discard and draw anew, and then, whether the cards are good or bad, to accept reality and enjoy that life. The movie itself is a masterpiece and quite interesting, so if you want to see a young Leonardo DiCaprio, please watch it at least once. The image is from the movie [Titanic].

U R not alone
Oh, please lend me your strength To the me of yesterday We've overcome things together, haven't we? "U R not alone" is a song by NEWS, with music provided and self-covered by GRe4N BOYZ (formerly GReeeeN). When I first heard the intro, I thought, "Oh, is this a soccer anthem?" But I think this is a song that students preparing for exams or job hunting... no, everyone who is trying hard and putting in effort should listen to. The part that really hit me was the chorus. "My number one partner is myself." The lyrics, which push you forward saying "Believe in yourself!" really resonated with me. NEWS LIVE ver. https://youtu.be/DX2YmowhUo4?si=By_-8RF2vUab7-ek

The Engineer and the Detective
"There is always an answer to any difficult problem." This is a phrase often used by characters like Kohei Tsukuda from the novel (and drama) "Shitamachi Rocket" and Professor Layton from the game series. They both use it to encourage their allies or players at crucial moments. It gives us the courage to believe that no matter how tough the problem or trouble we face, it's important to keep pushing forward without giving up. An engineer who is a factory president, and a detective who is an archaeology professor. At first glance, they seem like completely different professions, but their pride and positive outlook shine through. I Can't Do It Without You!
Any version of myself is still me. Even if it's a version I don't want, if it makes someone else happy, then that's a self I can love, a self I can be proud of. This is a quote from Kaoru Seta from "BanG Dream! Girls Band Party!" It's from the story of Chapter 2 of the main story of HaroHapi (short for Hello, Happy World). When the members were worried if they were truly needed by everyone due to the difference in their passion for band activities, Kaoru said this. It wasn't a scolding or a lecture, but rather a response that flowed naturally from the questions they asked. I won't say too much to avoid spoilers. If you're interested, please give the game a try.
