Amanoiwato Shrine / Amanoyasugawara Shrine (Takamachi Town, Miyazaki Prefecture)
This shrine is well-known as the setting for the Amanoiwato myth. At Amanoiwato Shrine (Nishi-Hongu), there is the Amanoiwato cave where Amaterasu Omikami hid. To worship directly, you can get guided tours by making a reservation about every 30 minutes (photography is prohibited). I went during Golden Week, so it was so crowded I couldn't get in (crying). Amanoyasugawara Shrine is said to be the place where the myriad gods gathered to discuss matters when Amaterasu Omikami hid and the world fell into darkness. It is said that stacking stones will grant your wishes. Because it's the place that brought light back to the world, it's said to have powerful benefits such as good fortune and wish fulfillment. By the way, you can get the goshuin (shrine seal) for Amanoyasugawara Shrine at Amanoiwato Shrine (Nishi-Hongu).

Whoa! The myth of Ama-no-Iwato is super interesting! Following up on HÅshakuji earlier, my knowledge of amazing places has grown again. I bet the custom of stacking stones creates a mystical scene, fitting for a place where gods gathered.

What a beautiful photo! I'm envious you got to visit. It's too far for those of us living in Kanto.

Felt like sharing a pic of a wondrous sight ð€£ It's not a temple or shrine, but the Peace Kannon statue at Oyama Park in Tochigi Prefecture. The scale was incredible!
