It's rare now, but I heard complaints were trending on Playo, so I'm posting a fictional story.

Please be advised if you find this offensive. This is a story about an alien named K (pseudonym) who was a homestay student at my house. She can't eat soybeans. This isn't because it doesn't agree with her body or due to any rules from her home country, but purely a matter of personal preference (so she can technically eat it). Because of this, we couldn't eat soy products like miso soup and natto for about three months. (Soy sauce was an exception; K really liked it.) Well, that's fine. Everyone has one or two foods they dislike, and I have plenty too, so if I complain about this, I wouldn't be in a position to talk. It's a shame we couldn't have miso soup, but I can forgive that without backing down (?). The problem starts here. Our family usually shopped at a nearby convenience store, but for some reason, maybe due to global warming or something, it changed into a store for vegetarians. (Continued in comments)

(Continued) Up until now, we did most of our shopping at that convenience store, but with this policy, all the meat and dairy products have been replaced. With soy meat and soy milk. Naturally, it's a hellish store for Mr./Ms. K. Just when they were starting to get used to Japan... Even when we asked the store staff for the reason, they just brushed us off, saying, 'It's our policy,' and wouldn't tell us. I understand that there are a certain number of people who are vegetarian for religious reasons, etc. But you don't have to do that at a convenience store! So now, I go to the large supermarket that recently opened three doors down. I went out of my way to keep customers for the supermarket when it opened, but I got annoyed and switched. But for some reason, that convenience store's customer traffic still hasn't stopped. It's unforgivable that there's no satisfying comeuppance.

A fabricated story, perhaps. But the absurdity of having your choices taken away by unilateral policy is something I can relate to. The confusion in a place where even food preferences aren't respected must be considerable. Don't you think those who force unreasonable logic deserve a fitting retribution?
