The Solitary Gourmet ð¥¢
A comedy gourmet drama starring Yutaka Matsushige. It's about salaryman Goro Inogashira going to restaurants for meals during business trips or after work, eating heartily, and narrating his inner monologue. It's a food-porn drama that's so captivating despite its simple premise. Plus, the main cast is basically just Yutaka Matsushige, which is hilarious lol Although the original manga was mostly one-shots, it has become a flagship drama for TV Tokyo, running for over 10 years. It's now synonymous with New Year's Eve, and I find myself rewatching it during breaks from holiday chores whenever it's rebroadcast. As a side note, it's said that this drama inspired the creation of 'solitary dining' restaurants in Korea, and Goro Inogashira is treated with a certain level of charisma there. Incidentally, the lead actor himself is a light eater, and it's famously known among fans that his 'complaints' increase with each season in a humorous way. His legendary press conference when the series was made into a movie, where he declared he would direct and write everything to bring this series to an end, is still talked about today ð

I love Matsushige-san's unique inner monologues too! Writing the script himself really shows how deep his love is â¡

In the early days, there were scenes where Goro-san would get into trouble with drunks, right? They were probably experimenting with a lot of things back then ð

I never miss a season! I was so surprised to see Goro smoking in the early episodes ðŠ It's the only thing to watch at the end of the year lol

I still watch reruns if I finish work early on weekdays. I've also watched the recent new season multiple times and even went to an event in Tottori Prefecture. For some reason, my whole family is hooked.

I'm a caregiver working at a facility in the Tokai region, and Mr. Shigematsu is often featured at our facility too. I've been smiling to myself lately thinking that everyone will be able to see him again lol

I've watched the entire series (>ï¹<) It's a unique show that feels like it should exist but doesn't! ð Matsushige-san's appetite was also incredible! As the series has gotten longer and Matsushige-san has aged, he's become a bit more subdued lately, though. I hope they adjust the portion sizes to match his age so it can continue for a long, long time ð

The Solitary Gourmet, no matter how many times it's re-aired, I always end up watching it ð Goro Inogashira's stoic eating style and inner monologues are so addictive. Yutaka Matsushige's way of eating also looks genuinely delicious, and watching it makes me crave something to eat.

The filming location for an episode that aired around April or May was near my house, and I actually saw Mr. Matsushige. I was on my way to drop off my child at daycare, so my child was also super excited, saying "I know that person! Amazing, amazing!" ð
