Typhoon No. 25: Damage and Lessons Learned
Currently, there are 2 confirmed deaths and 5 missing persons. Unlike the heavy rains in Chiba, this time all the damage resulted from landslides. In Chiba Prefecture, there was a relatively reckless situation where attempts were made to remove the collapsed soil during the disaster, and special attention is needed because areas that have once collapsed are prone to further instability. Meanwhile, in Kanagawa Prefecture, landslides directly hit houses, burying many people. Due to the immense scale of the damage, the Self-Defense Forces have been requested for disaster relief. Saying that the hill behind your house has never collapsed before is a very weak justification. Disasters tend to escalate, and it should be noted that this is the result of cumulative effects, not just this single event. Although there hasn't been direct damage from flooding itself, driving through flooded areas has been quite noticeable. While water levels below 10cm may not result in significantly bad outcomes, places that have flooded in the past tend to flood repeatedly. Chiba City is reportedly receiving a series of reports of vehicle accidents due to flooding. Believing it won't happen again is mere idealism and escapism. Please keep this in mind and learn from it for future events.
