Urashima Taro Book Report ①
Reading this story, I learned that 'those who have despaired in life can do unpredictable things.' In fact, Urashima, the protagonist of this story, ultimately breaks the rule he was told not to and receives his punishment. To avoid spoilers, I'll go into more detail later, but Urashima is more of a victim. He hasn't done anything particularly wrong and has acted morally, yet the story takes a frustrating turn as he is punished for breaking the rule. Roughly speaking, the story (spoiler alert) is about the protagonist helping a sea turtle in distress on the beach, which leads to him being invited to a castle at the bottom of the sea and having a splendid time. When Urashima returns to land, he is given a box with the instruction, 'Do not open it.' However, upon returning to the surface, Urashima finds that many years have passed, and no one he knew was still around. In despair, Urashima impulsively opens the box. He then turns into an old man. That very hesitation in choosing your words is proof you're engaging earnestly with the story. If the expression 'unpleasant' reflects your inner turmoil, then perhaps it's one valid answer.
