Forgot about it

My eldest son forgot about his cram school's test day and couldn't take it. Even though the teacher kindly told him, 'The test is on Sunday!', he didn't relay any information. And the notice was just left in his bag, so it was practically impossible for me, as a parent, to know the test date... I was so annoyed that I charged him for the test he didn't even take. (It was only 600 yen, so it's acceptable, right?) Haaah, I wonder if he'll be able to become a middle schooler next year with this kind of attitude 😇

That sounds like a disaster. But I think making them pay for their mistakes isn't a bad educational choice. They'll be fine if you gradually help them develop a habit of managing their own schedule before they become middle schoolers.

I think I saw an ad for something like this before, where if you take a picture of a school event notice with your smartphone, the schedule gets registered and shared with your parents. The example they gave was exactly the pattern you described: kid gets the notice -> shoves it in their backpack (all crumpled, ^^;;) -> forgets about it -> naturally, parents don't get informed -> panic on the day of the event. When I saw that, I thought: ① Do all kids have smartphones? ② If they forget to use the app, it's game over, ><;;; But what do you think? lol *I also thought, maybe it's fine for elementary schoolers, but wouldn't middle schoolers stop using such an app...? But then again, maybe it could be useful for their own reminders, not just for parents... or maybe not... ^^;;
