Someone who wants to take a close-up shot of a face head-on

I want to capture Emu and Saki's beaming smiles (close-up) in a head-on shot... If I get too close, they become semi-transparent, and if they don't walk directly towards the camera's position, they end up looking away like in the second picture. The first picture is a past best shot! ☺️
