The conversation never seems to start

Regarding the conversation between the Traveler and the Chokkins, sometimes it starts right away when I bring the Chokkins to the Traveler's location, but other times it just won't begin. Is there any trick to getting the conversation started? Today, Peso, the Kraken Alien, and Jean the speechless Traveler were just moving back and forth or spinning around, and the conversation didn't start at all 😅
