When I'm progressing through the main stages, there are unrelated stages in between, so it feels like I'm not progressing as much as I thought? It starts feeling difficult around stage 150.

Around stage 150, you'll start encountering tougher enemies that aren't easily beaten. I understand feeling impatient with the slow progress, but it's proof you're steadily moving forward. Don't push yourself too hard; make sure to take breaks too.
