It's not overwhelming for beginners, and they give out a lot of gems and other things even if you don't spend money, which is great. If you do decide to spend, I bought the one that removes ads. It's permanent and I think it was under $10. Pretty good.

However, there are many prompts to purchase items, so free-to-play or low-spending users need to be mindful and enjoy the game moderately without falling for Netmarble's tactics that induce a competitive spirit.

Even when I level up, there's no big difference from before. It's just stat upgrades and auto-battling, nothing else... As for the dragon companion, there's no point unless you focus on attack stats. It's just a matter of whether you can defeat them faster or not.
