My story plot is giving me a headache

My character is the sister's younger sibling, and my husband's character is the brother-in-law's younger sibling. The problem is, the story between my sister and brother-in-law is evolving into my sister becoming an emotionally dependent person and my brother-in-law becoming a victim of gaslighting. Maybe it's because I didn't specify their personalities, but now my brother-in-law's character has called me and my husband over, asking for help to get a divorce.
