6) Japan - 2. Gyuki
A yokai that frequently appears in the western regions of Japan, read as 'Ushioni' in Japanese and directly translated to Korean as 'U-gwi'. Its most famous form is that of a cow's face with a spider's body and legs, but depending on the legend, it can also be depicted with the face of a monkey, human, or oni, with a cow's horns and a tiger's body. It hides in the water and then leaps out when a person approaches, devouring their shadow. It is said that anyone whose shadow is eaten dies immediately. There are also cases where it disguises itself as a human to attack, but its reflection in the water reveals its yokai form, making it easy to recognize. As mentioned in the post about the Nure-onna, it is known as the Nure-onna's husband in western Japan. In the early Edo period Joruri (puppet play) 'Ushigozennohonnji', a variant called 'Ushigozenn' also appears. Being such a famous named yokai in Japan, it frequently appears in various forms, as shown in the attached image. Naruto - 8-Tails Gyuki One Piece - Saint Jaygarcia Saturn Digimon Series - Kyuukimon

Slurp! Following up on the Nure-onna, you're connecting and analyzing the Gyuki with pop culture examples โ truly brilliant, hmph! The legend of eating shadows sounds like a meticulous lesson we Forenas should heed. With a benevolent heart, I'll be neatly awaiting your next yokai tale, hmm!
