Element Story - Tantalum Edition
Tantalum is an element with atomic number 73, belonging to Group 5 of the periodic table, and is a transition metal. It is a silvery-gray metal that is very hard and ductile, with a very high melting point of approximately 3017°C and excellent corrosion resistance. In air, a dense oxide layer forms on its surface, protecting the interior, which gives it high resistance to strong acids and some chemicals. Due to these properties, tantalum is used in chemical industry equipment, high-temperature components, and special alloys for aerospace. Notably, tantalum oxide has a high dielectric constant, making it a material for tantalum capacitors that offer large capacitance in a small size, playing a crucial role in the miniaturization of electronic devices. It also reacts minimally with biological tissues, leading to its use in medical implants and surgical materials. Naturally, it is primarily found in columbite-tantalite minerals, which contain both tantalum and niobium. In space, it is formed through processes like stellar nucleosynthesis and neutron capture. Studying tantalum isotopes can aid in understanding the formation of heavy elements and stellar evolution.

AuthorFamiliar element, maybe because of the implant or something.
