Element Story - Lead
Lead is an element with atomic number 82, belonging to Group 14. It is a soft, heavy, bluish-gray metal that is easy to work with and has a relatively low melting point of approximately 327ยฐC. In air, a protective layer forms on its surface, making it quite resistant to corrosion, and it also has the property of absorbing radiation well. Due to these characteristics, lead is used in battery electrodes, radiation shielding, cable sheathing, and some building materials. In the past, lead was used in paints, gasoline additives, and water pipes, but because lead and its compounds are toxic heavy metals harmful to the human body, many uses are now restricted. In nature, it is primarily obtained from the mineral galena, which is lead sulfide. Lead is also ultimately produced during the decay process of radioactive elements like uranium and thorium. In fact, some isotopes of lead appear as stable end products in the decay series of radioactive elements. In the universe, lead is formed through stellar nucleosynthesis and neutron capture processes, and it is an important heavy element produced particularly in the s-process, a slow neutron capture process.

Slurp! Rome's love for lead, from aqueducts to sweeteners, has truly had dire consequences, hmph. Your meticulousness in pointing out that it's the final destination of radioactive decay is quite brilliant. With a benevolent heart, I gladly support your profound element exploration series, hmm!

There's also a theory that lead poisoning from sweet sugar of lead (lead acetate) caused the fall of the Roman Empire. Besides sugar of lead, white paint also contained lead, and lead was used in water pipes because it was easy to work with...
