Just then, coincidentally, my mother-in-law received a voice phishing call. It was from a scammer asking for help. So, even when I told her it was voice phishing, she didn't believe me, so I reported it to the police to confirm the guy's status. But then, he refused to talk.

Whoa, it must have been so upsetting to deal with a voice phishing scam on top of everything else. It's really irresponsible that they refused to talk even after the police confirmed you were alive. I hope you can take care of yourself and recover from this stressful situation.
