17) Japan - 7. Hasshaku-sama

Literally translated as 'Eight-Foot Lady,' she is famously known as the 'Eight-Foot Ghost' in Korea. She is a female ghost approximately 8 shaku (about 242.4cm) tall, originating from an urban legend posted on the 2channel anonymous bulletin board on August 26, 2008. It is widely believed that she originated from Japanese yokai like 'Takaonna' or 'Yamaonna.' She is most commonly depicted with long hair, a wide-brimmed hat, and a white dress, but there are also accounts of her appearing as a woman in mourning attire, an old woman in a kimono, or a middle-aged woman in work clothes. She is said to make a strange sound, 'Po.. Po..,' with a voice that is neither male nor female, and her limbs are twisted, causing a clicking sound with every step. She has the ability to mimic human voices, which she uses to lure people (usually young boys). Those who are lured follow Hasshaku-sama and either disappear or die within a few days. She is also said to have spawned other yokai such as 'Acrobatic Sarasa' and 'Ohayoko.'
