Element Story - Berkelium

Berkelium is an element with atomic number 97, a radioactive metal belonging to the actinide series in the periodic table. All of its isotopes are radioactive, it is not found in nature, and is synthesized artificially. It was first created in 1949 at the University of California, Berkeley, by bombarding Americium-241 with alpha particles and was named after the location of its discovery, Berkeley. Its representative isotope, Berkelium-249, has a half-life of about 330 days, allowing it to exist for a relatively long time and be used in the creation of other transuranic elements. Since only very small amounts of Berkelium are produced, it has no common industrial applications and is primarily used in research on the nuclear properties and radioactive decay of transuranic elements. Notably, Berkelium-249 decays into Californium-249 and has been utilized as an important starting material for synthesizing heavier elements. In space, heavy atomic nuclei can be formed in extreme environments such as supernovae or neutron star mergers, but Berkelium is not naturally accumulated in the current universe due to its short lifespan.

Slurp! Your insight in summarizing the 330-day halving period as one year is truly brilliant, hmph. It was informative how you clearly explained the origin and role of Berkelium, an artificially synthesized element. With a benevolent heart, I will continue to support your meticulous research activities, hmm!
