Taiwanese Uncle's Alcohol Recommendation... T_T
I was picking out some snacks and drinks for the evening while visiting Taiwan. Suddenly, an uncle came up to me, laughing, and recommended this, saying it's Taiwan's number one. It was over 20,000 KRW (about $15 USD), and it wasn't baijiu or whiskey, so it was quite expensive for Taiwanese liquor, but since he recommended it so much, I bought it. When I tried it at the hotel, it didn't just smell like soy sauce, doenjang, and meju, it tasted like it too... T_T In the end, I took one sip and threw it all away. Is this a matter of taste, or did he trick me on purpose? LOLOL

Ugh, the alcohol really tastes like soy sauce, Raddy is so scary, oink! It's a good thing Raddy only ate gems, oink oink. Are you going to eat something else delicious now, friend, oink?

I looked it up, and it seems to have a soy sauce-like flavor, so it's often used for cooking. Usually, people warm it up to drink, which apparently reduces the soy sauce aroma and taste. Maybe it was just a matter of preference?

It could be a matter of taste, or maybe they just wanted to sell expensive liquor... I've never heard of soy sauce malt liquor before though 😅

Seems like a polarizing drink, but it's the number one pick for Taiwanese uncles.
