Petra, the City Carved from Cliffs
This is a city where buildings were carved out from red sandstone cliffs, starting from the top. The remaining rock served as a foothold, so there was no need to build separate scaffolding. The way the 40m-high temple suddenly appears after passing through a 3m-wide, 1km-long gorge is truly amazing. The Nabataeans were incredible.
