In the early stages, it's more important to identify blocked items first rather than mindlessly clearing visible items. If you see three of the same kind, deal with them immediately, but it's best not to rush items that only appear one or two at a time. Specifically, clearing items that are buried underneath or hidden by other items first can lead to opportunities for chain matching as new items appear. When the board gets crowded, try to secure as much empty space as possible. This is because triple matching drastically reduces your options the moment space becomes limited. It's much more stable to clear items that are causing blockages on the current board first, rather than hoarding one type of item. Towards the end, you need to think about your next match rather than just quickly clearing items. It's efficient to save boosters and power-ups for the early game and use them only when you're really short on space or about to break a chain of matches.
