3. The Gold Medalist Who Won After Ingesting Rat Poison: The eventual winner, Thomas Hicks, was on the verge of collapsing from dehydration just before the finish line. His coaches forcibly gave him a mixture of brandy (alcohol), 'strychnine' (a component of rat poison, which is both a poison and a stimulant), and a raw egg. In a hallucinatory state, he barely dragged his legs across the finish line, practically being carried by his coaches. He narrowly escaped death after receiving emergency medical treatment immediately after the race. -To be continued-
