Tokyo's Underground Drainage System
Deep beneath Tokyo, 50 meters underground, lies a massive chamber where 59 pillars, each weighing 500 tons, stand in a row. But these pillars aren't holding up the ceiling. They're there to press down and prevent the empty chamber from floating up due to groundwater. With no land to widen rivers and gentle slopes making drainage difficult, engineers decided to hide the floods underground. It's even more astonishing that four pumps can empty a 25-meter swimming pool every second. They stand ready, silently, beneath Tokyo today.

Wow~ that's amazing. By the way, 'flipping the perspective' is a trending phrase.

If the water stored in that underground temple is released directly into the original river, there's a risk of flooding again. So, it's connected to a river that flows towards the Pacific Ocean, not Tokyo Bay, by crossing two rivers.

Whoa, it's truly amazing that there's such a huge drainage facility underground 😳 The idea of hiding floods underground is fascinating, and the scale is incredible haha 😊
