16 Blocks (2006)

This is the 2006 action film [16 Blocks], directed by Richard Donner, who also directed the Lethal Weapon series, starring Bruce Willis. The movie is about escorting a key witness across a distance of 16 blocks between the New York Police Department and the courthouse. Jack Mosley (Bruce Willis), a corrupt and weary old detective, is given the relatively simple task of escorting prisoner Eddie Bunker, who needs to testify in court. While en route, he is attacked by unidentified assailants. These attackers turn out to be Mosley's fellow police officers, who know they won't be safe if Eddie's testimony gets out, so they've come to eliminate him beforehand. Mosley refuses his colleagues' attempts at persuasion, chooses to turn all of New York's police force against him, and decides to fight to the end on his way to the courthouse. This is the main plot. While the premise feels a bit familiar and Mos Def's mumbling as Eddie Bunker is a bit distracting, it's not a bad movie for killing time.
