Sand Battery

Unlike lithium batteries, which are core to electric vehicles and smartphones, Finland has recently created a massive energy storage system using common 'sand'. This 'sand battery' stores excess electricity generated from wind or solar power as thermal energy by heating sand in silos to over 500 degrees Celsius. Once heated, the sand retains its temperature for months with minimal heat loss, providing stable heating for tens of thousands of homes during cold winters. It's an amazing rediscovery of modern engineering, achieving eco-friendly energy storage using only ordinary sand, without rare earth elements or toxic chemicals.
