In December 1944, as the Empire of Japan was increasingly losing the Pacific War, they eventually formed an organization called the Himeyuri Student Corps with female students when the Battle of Okinawa began, and sent them to the battlefield. Later, on June 18, 1945, the Himeyuri Student Corps was disbanded by order. However, the disbandment order was effectively a declaration of abandoning the students in the middle of the battlefield, leaving them without any protection. A week after the disbandment, a tragic 80% of them had perished.
