Lee Sora - Watching You So Different
This is [Watching You So Different] from Lee Sora's 2nd full album released in 1996. This song has a bit of a story behind it. It was originally a song gifted by Kim Dong-ryul, a member of Ex, to a rookie singer named Hwang Ho-wook, who was a finalist in the Riverside Song Festival. Hwang Ho-wook debuted with this song, but it didn't gain much attention. Later, Lee Sora, who loved the song, asked for permission from Kim Dong-ryul and Hwang Ho-wook and included a remake version on her 2nd album. However, in 1997, the year the song became popular, Hwang Ho-wook died in a landslide caused by heavy rain while serving in the military. Afterwards, Hwang Ho-wook's girlfriend sent a story to the radio show hosted by Kim Dong-ryul, saying, 'My boyfriend's song didn't get attention when it was released, but it became famous when someone else sang it, and it feels like my boyfriend's voice is being erased. It's heartbreaking.' This reportedly created a solemn atmosphere. Perhaps because of this, Kim Dong-ryul left the radio show shortly after. There's still a version of the song by Hwang Ho-wook on YouTube, so it might be interesting to compare and listen to both versions.

It's a heavy heart, wishing that someone's traces would not be forgotten. Listening to the original song with Hwang Ho-wook's voice, I will briefly cherish the warmth of the lost star.

I listened well and also looked up Hwang Ho-wook's version. It's a shame about your girlfriend's story. I wonder if the deceased in the other world would have wanted this song to be heard, even by another singer's voice, and for people to occasionally look up the songs they sang.

This is my favorite Lee Sora song from my younger days. My sibling used to say, 'Why do you listen to this, it's so pathetic?' But what can I do if I like it?
