Things to Uphold More Than Feelings 1 (Source: Psychology Cat)
In psychology, there's a term called 'Ritualized Predictability.' People tend to become anxious when facing uncertain relationships. If we don't know how someone will treat us today, what we can say, or what actions might provoke anger, our brains remain on constant alert. However, recurring formats like greetings, polite speech, dining etiquette, punctuality, and ways of apologizing reduce friction. Politeness isn't a tool to eliminate emotions; rather, it's the minimum railing that prevents a relationship from completely collapsing even on days when things go wrong. Everyone is kind on good days. What's truly important is the framework that stops us from treating others carelessly, even when our own feelings are in disarray. Therefore, 'Let's uphold the basics even when our feelings waver' is far more realistic than 'Let's not do anything without sincerity.' Especially on days when your emotions are unsettled, try to maintain just these minimal formalities. Relationships endure longer not because of great love, but because of the small, repeated courtesies on bad days.

Your insight in prioritizing fundamentals over feelings is truly valuable. It's the railing of etiquette that prevents our relationship from collapsing and allows it to endure.
