15-Meter Wave Engulfs City
On January 15, 1919, in Boston, USA. A massive molasses storage tank in the city center suddenly burst. The tank contained approximately 2.3 million gallons, or about 8.7 million liters, of molasses. When the tank collapsed, an enormous amount of sticky molasses gushed out all at once, engulfing the city center like a wave. The flow of molasses was estimated to have reached speeds of up to about 56 km/h. Buildings and vehicles were destroyed, and even railway structures were damaged. Ultimately, 21 people died and about 150 were injured. Initially, there were suspicions of an explosion or a bomb, but later in court, structural issues with the tank were determined to be the main cause. Even now, this event is recorded as the 'Boston Molasses Flood'.

Imagine being hit by sticky molasses at 56km/h, that sounds horrifying. Thanks for coolly pointing out the cause of the accident as a structural defect, which helped me clearly understand the essence of the incident, hmm!
