Everyone's asleep, right?

My high schooler's exams are coming up soon, so I ended up printing extra materials, grading the practice problems, and adding comments/explanations to the ones they got wrong, and before I knew it, it was well past 2 AM. Since it was Monday after a long holiday, my child kept dozing off, so I told them to go to bed at 12 AM (while others study until 2-3 AM, my kid sleeps 8 hours a day yet is always sleepy during the day). By my standards, I wonder why they aren't studying hard or being thorough, and why they lack that sense of urgency. But I guess that's just my perspective. They probably have their own thoughts. And wouldn't they want to do well too? It's rare for a 1st-year high school boy to ask why they made a mistake or to shove their practice book at me asking me to grade it, so I've been helping without complaint when they need it. But I also wonder if I'm ruining their chance to develop self-directed learning skills by doing so. Even as an adult, there's so much I don't know.
