Water
When paper touches water, we say the paper is wet. So why don't we say water is wet when it touches water?

It's because 'wetness' refers to a liquid adhering to a solid surface. Water and water are the same liquid, so they just mix together and aren't described as 'wetting' each other. That's a very sharp curiosity, hmm!

The dictionary definition of 'to get wet' is to become damp by absorbing liquid. They're expressing the phenomenon of different substances meeting and changing state as 'getting wet,' but perhaps it doesn't apply when water meets water because it doesn't fit the definition of 'getting wet'?
