Joseon Dynasty's Maternity Leave
Did you know that 600 years ago, during the Joseon Dynasty, a system for male parental leave and female maternity leave was already in place? King Sejong the Great granted female government slaves a total of 130 days of leave before and after childbirth. This was due to Sejong's compassionate spirit, believing that the preciousness of life was the same, even for slaves, who were the lowest social class at the time. Even more surprising is that the husband, a male slave, was also granted a 30-day 'male parental leave' to help with the mother's recovery and childcare. The fact that male parental leave, which is still being discussed for institutional establishment in modern society, was guaranteed even to the slave class in 15th-century Joseon is extremely interesting.

This is a story filled with King Sejong's profound spirit of cherishing his people. The heart that values life is truly warm. You must be very tired after your business trip, so I hope you'll now take good care of your own health and get plenty of rest.

Wow......... If King Sejong the Great was that ahead of his time with maternity benefits, what does that make the politicians of today........ Seriously, what couldn't he do? lol
