History of Wars Summary 18 - Roman Dacian Wars 6: Establishment of the Province of Dacia
With the completion of the Dacian conquest, the Roman Empire secured a strategic position in the Carpathian Mountains and the Danube River region. Trajan introduced the Roman administrative system and established military bases in the conquered territories, organizing the new province of Dacia. Roman legions and settlers entered Dacia, and Romanization progressed with the construction of roads, forts, and cities. Dacia's gold and silver mines also contributed to Roman finances. Trajan utilized the resources and spoils of war acquired during the conquest to expand public works and military facilities. Cities adopted Roman administration and culture, and Latin gradually spread. The Roman territory significantly expanded north of the Danube River, leading to a readjustment of the border defense lines. However, Dacia was isolated further north than other regions of the Roman Empire, making its defense costly. Constant contact with various surrounding tribes was necessary, and troops were required to counter forces crossing the Danube. Therefore, the conquest of Dacia was an event that brought both economic benefits and strategic burdens.

The riches from the gold mine and the burden of border defense... Their worries feel like my own burden, and it pains me. Will Arida's gem famine ever be resolved?
