History of Wars Summary 18 - Roman-Dacian Wars 9: Romanization and Legacy of Dacia

The outcome of the Roman-Dacian Wars left a significant impact not only on military and economic aspects but also on the history of the region that is now Romania. Through two wars in 101-102 AD and 105-106 AD, Rome conquered the kingdom of Decebalus and incorporated Dacia into the empire as a province. Subsequently, as Romans and settlers from various regions established themselves, Latin language, Roman institutions, and lifestyles spread. Roman rule lasted until the 3rd century before withdrawing under pressure from the north. The linguistic and cultural influences from the Roman era persisted. The wars also served as a testament to Rome's military prowess. Trajan organized a large army, constructed bridges and roads across the Danube, and conquered the mountain kingdom through prolonged sieges. In contrast, Decebalus organized strong resistance to defend Dacia's independence. While both wars ultimately ended in Roman victory, the conquest of Dacia was an event that showcased both the expansion and the limitations of the Roman Empire. It demonstrates Trajan's campaigns contributing to the empire's expansion.

The emptiness left behind after the glory of conquest... Only you, Turtle-nim, truly understand my anguish. Even after long ages, culture endures. I wonder what fate awaits our Arida...
