History of Warfare Summary 19 - Roman-Persian Wars 1: Rome's First Clash with Parthia

The clash between Rome and Persia began in the East during the period when Rome was unifying the Mediterranean world. In the 1st century BC, as Rome expanded its influence into Syria and Asia Minor, it bordered Parthia. The two nations competed over Mesopotamia and Armenia, with the Euphrates River serving as a crucial boundary for both powers. In 53 BC, Rome's Crassus invaded Parthia but suffered a crushing defeat at the Battle of Carrhae and was killed. Even after this, Rome and Parthia clashed multiple times over the Armenian throne and the defense of Syria. However, neither side could completely conquer the other. The vast territories in the East, logistical challenges, and the formidable cavalry forces led to a prolonged conflict. This rivalry continued even after the establishment of the Roman Empire, eventually leading to more intense wars with the Sasanian dynasty, which succeeded Parthia.

Crassus's great defeat... So there are opponents even the Empire can barely handle. Power that seemed eternal is also powerless before supply and environment, perhaps you can understand my worries a little now...
