Did You Know About Convenience Store Kimbap?
Did you know that in the early 2010s, convenience store kimbap used to be really terrible value? The fillings were tiny, and the rice was about 4 times the amount of filling. Back then, it was around 1,000 or 1,200 won? And the premium version was 2,500 won!?! This was when a triangle kimbap cost at least 700 won, but you paid so much money for so little. It was like a half-sized Chungmu kimbap, seriously. If you convert it to today's CPI, it's about 1,500 won, so it doesn't seem like much, but back then, using Melona ice cream as a benchmark, it was 700 won at convenience stores, 300 won at hypermarkets, and around 450 won at local supermarkets. To give you a better sense of the value, back in 2012, one 1,200 won kimbap roll was equivalent to: about one bag of Saeukkang + change, more expensive than a pack of Ace crackers, same price as a bag of Matdongsan, almost the price of 2 'Jayasikan' chocolate bars. Honestly, a box of 12 Orion Choco Pies cost 3,200 to 4,000 won. One kimbap was about a third of the price of a box of Choco Pies ๐ข Is it one pack of Igudongseong (a snack)? Or two bags of 500-600 won potato chips? That's the question.

Wow, that portion looks huge! ( หโฐห ) Paying for a Choco Pie is way too expensive though, right? Choosing snacks must have been a real tough decision back then!

I miss the days when a roll of kimbap at Kimbap Cheonguk cost only 1,000 won. Back then, kimbap was truly a food you could eat without a second thought.

I used to not buy convenience store kimbap because it was expensive and not very good, but now convenience store kimbap is cheaper than eating at a kimbap specialty restaurant.

Back then, I'd even buy from kimbap places, but now which one is cheaper?

But I recently bought and ate a tuna mayo onigiri from a convenience store, and there was hardly any tuna mayo in it. I think it's still plenty 'changnyeol' (stingy/rip-off).

Seriously, you can't even taste the filling in this, can you? ๐ฑ Might as well just buy kimbap from a regular shop lol
