In the party room, 'Ready' never lit up. Every time we used to team up, he'd hit ready instantly and complain in DMs about me taking too long to switch characters. Later, in my friend list, a gray line appeared under his avatar: 'Last online: Over 365 days ago' Today, I logged into the game. As usual, I created a party and picked the charging character he used most often. The characters on screen no longer stood shoulder to shoulder, and the background music played cheerfully. I quietly watched the screen, not clicking solo match. In the party room, 'Ready' never lit up.
