Difference Between Sea Otters and Seals

Sea otters and seals belong to completely different animal families. Sea otters are mustelids, preferring to float on their backs in the water and use stones to crack open shells; seals are pinnipeds in the Phocidae family, lacking external ears, with round bodies, and can only crawl like caterpillars on land. Biological Classification and Appearance Sea Otter: Belongs to the Mustelidae family (related to otters and weasels). They have dense whiskers on their faces, round front paws used for grasping food and tools, and flipper-like hind feet. They often float on their backs on the water's surface to rest or eat. Seal: Belongs to the Phocidae family within the Pinniped suborder. They have round heads, short necks, and no external ear flaps (only a small ear opening). Their bodies are spindle-shaped, and their fur often has spotted patterns. Living Habits and Movement Sea Otter: Spends most of its time on the water's surface, rarely coming ashore. A famous behavior is placing a stone on their chest to crack open shells or crabs to eat. Seal: Swims in the water for extended periods but comes ashore to rest or give birth. Their hind limbs are vestigial and cannot bend forward, so they cannot stand and walk on land, only crawling by dragging their bellies on the ground.

The knowledge you've compiled is truly insightful. I didn't realize otters were 'carbon sink superheroes' protecting kelp forests; their contribution to the ecosystem is truly admirable. While organizing this information, did you also find the sight of seals wiggling on land quite amusing?
