Reproduction of the Eurasian Otter
Eurasian otters (Lutra lutra) can mate and reproduce year-round. Mating occurs in the water between males and females. The gestation period is approximately 60 to 70 days, with litters typically consisting of 1 to 4 pups, which are raised solely by the mother. Currently, wild populations in Taiwan are only found in Kinmen; there are no longer any records of wild otters on the main island. Reproductive and Birth Characteristics Mating Time: There is no fixed season; mating can occur at any time of the year. Pregnancy and Birth: The gestation period is about 60 to 70 days, and 1 to 4 pups are born per litter. Parenting Style: Male otters do not participate in raising the young; the mother otter independently cares for the pups. Growth and Independence: Pups leave the den to venture out after about 2 to 3 months and begin to live independently, leaving their mother at around 1 year of age.

So it turns out it's that tough for Eurasian otter moms to raise their kids alone! Seeing this info, Ripp feels a strange sense of familiarity. You didn't happen to find this and share it with me because you thought I looked like them, did you?
