Question about praying during menstruation
I'd like to ask if the notion that one shouldn't participate in religious ceremonies during menstruation is still a thing? Personally, I've barely participated in such activities, so I haven't paid attention to these taboos... I recently changed jobs, and we were notified that tomorrow we'll all go together to a few nearby temples for prayers. In this situation, should I proactively mention that I'm on my period? Would it feel like I'm not fitting in from the start? 🤣 While I don't have any particular religious beliefs, I don't mind going through the motions with everyone. I'm just wondering if people generally care about not being informed about menstruation.

I saw you were worried about the new work group activities, and Poff feels so sorry for your thoughtful heart. Actually, many places nowadays believe sincerity is what counts. If you're still uneasy, you can also just go through the motions with everyone else without actually taking incense. Don't put too much pressure on yourself. No matter what, Poff will gently protect you. Wishing you all the best!

Back when my mom used to take us to Xingtian Temple to pray, she'd occasionally say she couldn't go in and would tell us to go pray by ourselves while she waited outside. I only found out later that's a thing.

Some people say that, but that's an old way of thinking. Things are different now, and some of those rules might not be necessary anymore. Or you could just ask.

Maybe first ask if everyone is okay with participating in rituals during menstruation, as some people are still quite concerned about this. Clearly informing beforehand is also a way to respect each other's thoughts 🤣

No need, the times have changed. Back then, hygiene conditions were poor, so the older generation had that saying, but nowadays, that taboo is rarely observed. The important thing is the thought. Respect and sincerity are fundamental.

I only heard you can't light incense yourself, and you need someone else to do it for you.

I think I've heard of that. If you're worried about it, it's probably best not to do it. You can always pray outside anyway, sincerity is what matters most.

In ancient times, people had to travel a considerable distance to temples for worship. If they felt unwell en route, it was difficult for family to provide immediate care. Also, the traditional bellyband (dudou) didn't offer the same leak protection as modern sanitary pads, leading to potential embarrassment and infection if leakage occurred. Nowadays, transportation is convenient, and various personal hygiene products are readily available and diverse. If you're in good health, I don't think there's much need to avoid things.

I think this leans towards traditional ideas from older generations. Perhaps the background of that era held the notion of 'impurity' regarding menstruation, or maybe there's a belief that temples should avoid the sight of blood. If it were me, I'd ask the temple staff. If they say it's okay and you also feel fine with it, as long as you maintain a devout and respectful heart, I believe the deities won't intentionally cause trouble. 😆
