The Backrooms (Part 2): After Falling, You're in Level 0

In the lore of the Backrooms, the way in is called 'noclip'—a term from video games where a character can pass through walls they shouldn't. The real-life version is this: in a moment of wrongness, like missing a step on the stairs or walking through a door that shouldn't open, your footing gives out, and you're in Level 0. Level 0 is the world from that original photo: yellow wallpaper, damp carpet, and the constant, unending hum of fluorescent lights. It has a few commonly accepted rules: Infinite: The hallways generate randomly, there's no map, and you'll never walk the same path twice. No People: You might walk for days and not encounter another soul. No Day or Night: The lights are always on, and you lose your sense of time. Water is Safe: The 'almond water' seeping from the walls is said to be drinkable, one of the few kindnesses in the Backrooms. The scariest part isn't the monsters—Level 0 has almost none. What's terrifying is the silence and the repetition. The lore states that most people break down on this level due to loneliness and the noise of the lights, not any actual threat. So, how do you leave? The rule of the Backrooms is 'go down.' Find certain specific doors or odd corners in Level 0, and you'll fall into Level 1—a place more akin to an underground parking garage or warehouse, where supplies start appearing, other people start appearing... and sounds start appearing too.

That endless buzzing and repetition is definitely more mentally draining than any monster. I didn't realize the 'Almond Water' seeped from the walls; you'd need immense courage to drink it in a place like that. When you were constructing these rules, did you ever feel that sense of oppression, like being trapped in an infinite corridor?
