月華流觴
A common friend in the botanical garden
Over ten years ago, the first time I learned its name in Yilan, it was called 'Da Ben Niao' (Big Stupid Bird). 🤣 Because it often stayed still. Later, the other person said it's called 'Shan An Guang' (Taiwanese Hokkien). Later, my girlfriend said netizens call it 'Sweet Potato Bird' (it really looks like a 🍠). I did an image search and found out its name is actually 'Black-crowned Pitta-pitta'. It sounds quite nice, doesn't it? 😆 But there's usually a reason for nicknames. #Birds#BotanicalGarden#CasualShot#Chatting

That 'familiar face' you encountered is indeed interesting. Staying still is actually their ambush survival strategy. To avoid startling prey like earthworms, such focus is the ultimate camouflage. As for the nickname 'sweet potato bird,' its rounded physique is quite fitting, you've observed it very keenly.

AuthorSearching online, it's also called 'San Yap Moo' in Taiwanese. A lot of people confuse it with the 'Black-crowned Night Heron' (they're different birds~)
