Item #: SCP-409 Object Class: Keter Special Containment Procedures: Physical contact with SCP-409 is forbidden for any reason. Any object that comes into direct contact with SCP-409, as well as any tools used to transport the item, must be immediately quarantined. SCP-409 is to be kept at all times within a sealed granite box, and sealed granite boxes must be used when transporting the item. Any residue produced by SCP-409, and any tools used to transfer said residue into the granite sealed box, are to be sealed within the box as well. Description: SCP-409 resembles a large quartz crystal, approximately 1.5 meters tall and 0.6 meters wide. Any object that comes into contact with SCP-409 will begin to crystallize after three hours, with all objects except granite being affected by this anomaly. The crystallization spreads at a rate of approximately 2.5 centimeters per minute, converting internal and external tissues from the inside out. Test subjects report the transformation process to be extremely painful, similar to the sensation of frostbite. Once an object is fully crystallized, it will emit a clicking and creaking sound for approximately twenty minutes before shattering into thousands of pieces with extreme force.
