I prefer using coins! Bills require change, and I feel a bit awkward when it's a large amount, lol.

Legit money, what's there to be embarrassed about? Maybe a little awkward towards the cashier/shopkeeper... but I'll count it out with them right there. Also, some stores have a 'coin friendly' sign~ telling customers it's okay to take their time counting change, so I prioritize shopping there.
If you were to exchange your hard-earned gems for gold and spend them today, would you feel so ashamed that you wouldn't dare to shop?

What's embarrassing about national currency? Unless it's like those news stories where they intentionally give you a bunch of 1-unit coins just to humiliate you.

I really like using loose change to top up at the MRT station. (I mean the auto top-up machines) That coin sound when you drop them in is super satisfying 🥳 Although I personally don't handle a lot of change, why would it be embarrassing? If that's the case, wouldn't it be even more embarrassing to buy things at convenience stores with a free barcode? 🤣 I do this kind of thing often lol
