Awich is hailed as Japan's 'Queen of Hip Hop.' She had hip-hop works at the age of 14. At 19, she moved to the US, started a family, but then experienced a shooting incident at home with her daughter. She went through her husband being imprisoned, then murdered, and she and her daughter almost had to flee back to Japan before she could return to the hip-hop music scene. She's a singer with quite a story. Her rap switches seamlessly between English and Japanese with explosive power. I especially recommend listening to Awich's live version. By the way, Awich's stage name is an abbreviation of 'Asian wish child,' which also reflects the meaning of her given name, Akiko, in kanji.
