Old Dog Found Tied Next to Backpack on the Road, Opened to Reveal a Cat Inside

A heartbreaking abandonment case occurred in Clowne, Derbyshire, UK, on September 3rd. A passerby discovered a severely ill Jack Russell Terrier tied with a rope next to a blue backpack. Upon opening the backpack, they found a black and white cat trapped inside. The dog was unable to move freely, and both animals were left by the roadside without food, water, or shelter, a truly distressing sight. The elderly dog was named Angie. Veterinary examinations revealed a large infected mass in her abdomen, fleas all over her body, cloudy eyes, and overgrown nails, scoring only 1 out of 10 for her body condition. The vet believed the mass might have been present for some time. The cat inside the backpack was extremely nervous and huddled in a corner. Angie's microchip information was incomplete, making it impossible to contact the owner. RSPCA rescuer Ben stated that Angie's condition was concerning, with the mass oozing infection. However, she remained alert and stayed protectively by the backpack, guarding her feline friend inside. Touchingly, despite her own serious illness, Angie refused to leave, as if waiting to be discovered. Angie immediately received antibiotic treatment and underwent surgery to remove the mass on September 8th, showing good recovery. The cat had no external injuries but was highly stressed and needed time to recover. The RSPCA emphasized that owners are responsible for the proper care of their animals and should not abandon them. Investigations found that earlier that day, someone had taken the two animals to a nearby veterinary clinic to inquire about rehoming, but the clinic could not take them in, and they were subsequently abandoned by the roadside. Both animals are currently recovering and will be put up for adoption together once their condition is stable, with the hope of finding them a forever home. The case is still under investigation. Wow... I hope those who abandoned them face immediate karma!
