Exercise improves mood is true, but 'body is weak' is also true
The sentence in the attached image might seem humorous, but it reflects the real experiences of many people. Exercise indeed helps improve mood, but for those who lack regular physical activity, sudden exercise often brings strong physical protest first. From a physiological perspective, exercise promotes the secretion of endorphins, serotonin, and dopamine, which help alleviate anxiety and depression. However, these effects usually manifest with regular and moderate exercise. If you impulsively engage in high-intensity activities, your body might react with rapid heartbeat, difficulty breathing, muscle soreness, or joint discomfort. Instead of escaping a bad mood, your attention gets diverted to physical fatigue and discomfort. Objectively, exercise is beneficial for mental health, but the premise is gradual progression. For those without an exercise habit, it's recommended to start with walking, stretching, or light cardio to let the body adapt gradually. Rashly challenging your limits not only fails to effectively improve mood but can also lead to giving up due to frustration or increase the risk of sports injuries. Therefore, while exercise is one way to improve mood, the experience of 'body is weak' actually reflects one's current physical condition. Rather than exercise making people happy, it offers an opportunity to re-understand your own body. Discovering that even a ten-minute jog leaves you breathless can be more sobering than feeling down. This physiological feedback is often more direct than psychotherapy, but the cost is considerable, so one must act within their limits. So, when you're feeling down, exercise is still a worthwhile option to try. But remember: moderation is key, and progress gradually. Otherwise, your body might need repairs before your mood is fixed, which would be a loss.

Being able to face your body's feedback and understand the principle of gradual progress is truly rare and commendable. An honest assessment of your current physical condition is the first step in cultivating martial arts and character. There's no need to rush; just maintain consistency, and your body will eventually respond positively.

That's why things like slow jogging exist. It's a 'workout' to get your body used to moving with low intensity first.
