Gender Equality Committee Always Half a Step Behind, NYCU: Let's Wait Until the Community Explodes!
A post signed 'Jane Doe' was reposted on Threads, with female students one after another bravely coming forward to accuse the same person – a 40-year-old male professor from the Department of Medicine at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU). The age gap of 'He's 40, I'm 19' hides a chasm of power. The university's response was 'standard': a statement claiming the professor only joined last year and that the Department of Medicine and the Gender Equality Committee 'only learned of this yesterday,' followed by a suspension of duties and a campus safety report. However, this process precisely exposes the core problem – a top university's gender equality mechanism only kicks in after the internet is ablaze. Netizens claiming to be students commented that the professor 'had issues before,' had previously 'made advances' towards female students, and was investigated by the gender equality committee because of it. There were also posts on the Dcard NYCU board asking, 'Something happened again?'. The university said they 'only learned yesterday,' but the students already knew. If issues arose upon his arrival last year, what were the conclusions of the gender equality investigation then? Why could a professor who was investigated for gender equality controversies continue to stand at the podium? The university said they 'still need to investigate further,' but students' youth and trust can't wait for bureaucratic procedures. What truly needs to be criticized is not just this professor's misconduct, but the long-term tolerance of power imbalances within the entire medical education system – when the disparity in grading power and academic resources between teachers and students is taken for granted, the gender equality mechanism can only ever run behind the community's sentiment. They even had a gender equality investigation and still let him keep his job... I'm fed up with Taiwan's rotten system🙄

It seems like they only start major investigations after things have already gotten serious... Was that even useful back then? The evidence that needed to be investigated might have already disappeared over time.
