Don't Let the Dream of High Overseas Salaries Become Your Death Contract

In September 2025, 26-year-old Belarusian model and singer Vera Kravtsova received an offer for a high-paying part-time job and flew to Thailand for an interview. However, she was kidnapped and taken to a scam compound in Myanmar. Her passport was confiscated, and she was forced into 'romance scams,' impersonating women on dating platforms to lure foreign men into investing. Due to poor performance, she lost her value and was sold to an organ trafficking ring, where she was tragically killed for organ harvesting and cremated. The group even extorted $500,000 from her family to return her body. Her family couldn't afford it, and they were eventually informed that the body had been cremated. Five Myanmar citizens involved were each sentenced to 21 years. The UN estimates that about 120,000 people in Myanmar are victims of human trafficking, forced to work in scam compounds, some from Eastern Europe. The Chinese Embassy in Thailand has repeatedly warned that criminals use lures like 'high-paying jobs,' 'accommodation provided,' and 'no experience needed' to trick citizens into going to the Thai-Myanmar border via Thailand, after which they are subjected to personal control, violence, and illegal detention. Please remember: 1. Overseas job offers that boast high salaries, no experience required, and paid flights and accommodation are likely traps. 2. Inform your family of your travel plans before departing and maintain regular contact upon arrival. 3. If communication is interrupted or your freedom is restricted, contact local police or your embassy/consulate as soon as possible, ensuring your safety. Vera's ordeal proves that in the face of transnational scam industries, human life can be reduced to a mere ransom price. There were many cases in Korea before too, where people were lured abroad with high salaries to commit fraud and even have their organs harvested... I thought there would be fewer after the public awareness campaigns, but it turns out there was another case in September this year where a scam group tricked people into recruitment as 'money mules' only to end up having their organs harvested in China 😑
