Elderly Man Who Resented Daughters for Not Visiting Left His Property to Grateful Grandson; Gift Validated: Aunts Receive Only P

An elderly man in Taipei, grateful for his grandson Kai (pseudonym) visiting and caring for him every week, signed a gift contract to give his property in the prime location of Section 1, Zhonghua Road to Kai. However, after the old man's death, his four daughters contested the gift, delaying the property transfer. Kai sued, demanding his aunts fulfill the contract. The Taipei District Court, after hearing testimony from a caregiver, determined that the old man was mentally sound when he signed the contract and had expressed resentment over his daughters rarely visiting, stating, "That's why I'm leaving the house to my hardworking grandson." The court ultimately ruled against the defendants, ordering the transfer of the Ximending property to Kai, and dividing the remaining inheritance, including bank stocks and savings, according to their legal shares. The old man passed away in December 2022. His estate included a property on Section 1, Zhonghua Road, land in Xindian District, New Taipei City, Huatai Bank stocks, and a small amount of savings. The most valuable asset was the residence located in Ximending on Section 1, Zhonghua Road. The plaintiff, Kai, claimed that his father had passed away in 2014, and his grandfather had signed a gift contract in 2020, gratuitously gifting the entire ownership of the Zhonghua Road property. However, after his grandfather's death, other heirs, including his four aunts, failed to cooperate with the transfer, and he sought justice from the court. During the court's review, one of the defendants questioned the gift contract, stating it only surfaced after the grandfather's death and was signed two years prior, requesting someone to clarify the actual circumstances at the time of signing. The other defendant heirs, despite being legally notified, did not appear in court and did not submit any written arguments to dispute the claim.
